It starts with a line.

Vanessa Tremain is a Colombian-American artist and graphic designer based in New York. She graduated in 2013 with a degree in Graphic Design, with a focus on Illustration, from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia.

Since her time in Berlin in 2017, Vanessa has been immersed in a personal artistic process led by intuition rather than planning. After years of working as an illustrator, where clarity and structure were essential, she shifted to drawing freely, letting the hand move before the mind. In that space, she found her own visual language: raw, instinctive, and emotionally honest.

Her work, mostly black ink on paper, explores emotional states, memory, and the complexity of relationships. Through abstract compositions, she builds visual labyrinths meant to be inhabited rather than explained, inviting viewers to uncover their own narratives within the lines. This practice became a way to connect more deeply with her own emotionality and sense of place in the world.

She has participated in solo and group exhibitions and created murals and in Berlin, Bogotá, and New York. Her exploration remains deeply personal yet open—anchored in the emotional resonance between the work and those who encounter it.

Alongside her artistic practice, Vanessa has worked on educational and social projects as a graphic designer with various institutions in Colombia. For over a decade, she also served as an art director for animated TV series, including “10 Años para Cambiar el Mundo” and “Palto, el Elegido”, both awarded across Latin America.

She has lived in New York for the past five years, where she devotes most of her time to painting and creative exploration. She also continues to work as an art director and video developer from her studio in Brooklyn.
